A review of the Mustang exhaust parts (thanks to afixer) confirmed my suspicions and shows that the stock '05 V6 muffler has the exact same part number (Ford 5230) as the right side V8 GT muffler! Can anybody confirm this through hands-on experience? I've read several posts about people swapping the GT for the V6 and claiming "how much better it sounds." Comments?
i had a muffler shop tell me that, but i dont think they are the same, there is a counter balance on the v-6. and the GT takeoff muffler is much better than the stock v-6... i thought i had pictures of the two side by side...but i cant find them..
They are definitely different, I have both the GT muffler and the V6 muffler sitting on the floor in my garage.
Ah--cool! Any pictures you can post to share? The Ford PDF I saw clearly has them as the same part number..interesting!!
Sure! I am about to sell them on ebay, my two GT mufflers that is. I'll throw the V6 muffler in too for the pics. I'm in DC so I will post them tonight, around 8ish EST time. Later.
the pipes are the same but the muffler tails are dif and the vib damper and 1 extra mount are not on the gt.
5230 is the base P/N for a muffler. All Ford mufflers have that same base P/N (5230), but that is not a complete Ford P/N. A complete Ford P/N has a prefix and suffix added to the base P/N: EG. 5W4Z-5230-BA would be a complete P/N
Okay, thanks for the info! I saw a different number for the left and right muffler on the V8, so I thought the same number meant same part. I was half wrong Wish the Ford sheet showed the part numbers in whole...
