I've got an 02 S281, what's upgraded on the exhaust over the stock Mustang GT? Is it just mufflers or is the whole exhaust different? What kind of exhaust is saleen pipes? thanks.

On my '03, Saleen changed the cat back to a Magnaflow, and cut in an "X" between the front and rear cats. I was also a little disappointed in the sound, too quite at idle in my opinion. I changed the mid pipe to a Magnaflow off road "X". It is better, but kinda loud and a little raspy. Not sure if it is exactly what I am looking for still. From reading a lot of threads about exhaust around here and other places, seems an "H" pipe may have more of a muscle car sound, not sure though as I have not heard one myself.

You might try ditching the four-cat Saleen X-pipe first, in favor of a two-cat aftermarket pipe (unless you live in an area wher you can get away with an off-road pipe). The catted Magnaflow X on my car produced a slightly louder, more edgy sound that I like.

I followed Dennis's suggestion and replaced the 4 cat x-pipe on my car, and it sounds sweet. Much deeper tone and a sound I can't really describe when I get in it, but its just awesome.

But if you have a Bassani x then maybe if your car has the center exhaust, and I think most of the 04 cars did, that could be part of what’s quieting the car down. The center exhaust is just quieter in my opinion; probably because of all the bends.

i know what i meant was how many miles on the magnaflow becuase the same principle works for it having to break in to get louder. if his car only has a few miles on it thatd be why its so quiet and changing to a brand new borla wouldnt really solve the problem.
