i was just looking around on the american muscle site and noticed under new products the SCT XCAL 3- anyone using these things yet and whats better? im going to get my tune on saturday and i dont want to buy the xcal2 if this one is better and just coming out might as well get this one.
I am in the same situation as you, I am due for a tune and an SCT tuner next week, but I want to be sure I am not buying into yesterdays technology if the newer version is on the horizon. So after reading your post I went to the SCT site and asked them outright if the SCT 3 was due anytime soon. I haven't heard back from them yet though.
Yes American Muscle does have them in stock for $449.00, but is a little vague about the improvememts.
I just got this info from a tuner site: " The X3 is the newest flasher from SCT. It was necessary for SCT to introduce this product to support future vehicles with new processor types. The X3 does not add any significant end-user functionality over the tried and true X2. The X2 is still a current product that VMP will continue to sell and support. VMP is currently testing the X3 to make sure it meets our standards for flasher functionality and datalogging stability. " I got that quote from here:>>>----> http://www.vmptuning.com/store/index.php? So I guess that sorta says you might as well save the bucks and buy an Xcal-2
Has 128megs of on board storage. Firewire port. Datalogs in real time I believe. Bigger display screen. They used one to transfer a new tune into my Cobra yesterday. U.M.
I got the Livewire instead. It's pretty neat. Has mega options. Tuner, Datalogger, Scan Tool, Measures HP, Tq, 1/4 time, 0-60, can do A/F too. A lot of telemitry options. Never had and X-Cal 2, just had a first gen Xcalibrator.
How is the livewire, i was thinking about getting one myself, i just was debating where i would want to mount it to keep it from being distracting, what i have read the thing is pretty sweet
You can purchase it either preloaded with SCT programming like the XCal 2 9415 SF or a standard unit that requires a custom program to be built and installed when purchased. An added benefit is that any of the preloaded devices can also hold a custom program like the Livewire. The blank device of course will cover any 1996 OBD II and newer vehicle; this includes the 94 - 95 MN12 with the 4.6 and Mustang 3.8. Standard preloaded tuning files are designed for vehicles with minor performance modifications such as: cold air kits, high flow exhaust systems and other basic modifications.
