The courses I've been to had skid "pads" , I can say you will learn more about vehicle control on a skid pad in 1 hour than a lifetime just going through corners.
I don't know if there is a right to learning a skid pad, more like a right to learning car control. That is mostly up to the individual too, if you grew up in snow country or Kart Racing as a kid, then you'll have an easy time of hanging out the rear drifting style. But that is not what a skid pad is for either, it is for learning how to control understeer and oversteer of your vehicle.
