the following is all copied/pasted from a gaming website so the description is larger and somewhat indepth since many of them only go by looks. this is an '88 LX Hatch. it has 5.0 badging for some odd reason but it has a 2.3 with the a4ld(overdrive transmission). it has an 8.8" rear end with 3.73 gears and the 4-way shocks to eliminate wheel hop. i have a 2.3 turbo motor out of a TurboCoupe Thunderbird that i plan on swapping in along with the wiring harness, a 255 lph Warlboro(sp?), larger injectors(undecided) and when i get more $$, get a recalibration. my goal is to have it running a good 23-25 psi. i have a volvo intercooler for it and plan on methanol injection. the tires that are currently on this are weather-checked so i plan on leaving the a4ld transmission in and burning off the tires along with the clutches and then put in a c4 once i get one. this car has no cancer, or at least i havent found any as of yet. it needs vacuumed because it has mouse turds all over from sitting for 3 years, a new gas tank will probably be needed, too. i would appreciate comments, suggestions and/or questins. I have the fender and it's in perfect shape along with the side molding...
Looks like a good project, you could always make an SVO clone. I've got a hood and front end if you decide to.
I used to have wheels like that on my S-10. They were ultra wheels with center cap spinners. Looks like a litle work on that drivers side quarter. Major overhaulin, but it should be worth it.
the car really isnt as bad as it looks. i need to replace the washer fluid container since it sat out in the sun and crumbles in your fingers. all i really need to do is get the fender back on and re-glue the side molding. then, remove the interior on that driver's side and attempt to pop out the dents which really arent that bad. also, as you can see in the photos, i have the driver's door panel and i planned on buying a CD player so i'm not worried about the missing stereo. one thing that worries about my car is all of the power options, i hope they work after so long, it has the usual power doors & windows. i also planned on removing the gas-door release since it's not needed and actually doesnt work. all the tires need replaced because of weather-checking but the back left one wont hold air(it leaks around the valve-stem seal) so the tires currently on it will be saved for when the turbo motor is in so i can work out.... umm, "bugs". thanks, teal. of course, i fell in love with them the first time i glanced at the car from the highway.
i just removed a similar dent from my 79. you wont be able to pop the front part of the dent out from the inside, because of the seatbelt mount. i would definitely use a slide hammer. my dent was BAD. the entire panel between the fender, and door was smashed in about 2.5"s. after using a slide hammer and a little bit of bondo, it looks awesome. goodluck! sounds like an awesome project.
Wow not a bad find, I paid $500 for my 89 4Banger Auto Stang. First things first, DUMP THE AUTO! 5-Speed all the way Believe me its a brand new car afterword.
looks pretty rough, id probably part it out because thats a tall order for bodywork. but if you got the time, fun project!
It's attitudes like that which are causing me not to be able to find complete 2.3s anymore. Theres only like 5 cars between manual t-birds and stangs 87-93 within 200 miles of me on auto trader. I drove for 4 hours the other day and saw two, an auto lx 93 for 1300, and an svo in a junkyard that I couldn't get a price on. (looked nice too, only a little right fender damage. But chances are they know what they've got)
