I've been thinking about it for a few months now and finally did it today. I was there for about 2 hours and feel a lil' better about myself, now that I don't sit home and get fat... Anyone else here go to the gym and suggest any special work out?
Ive been meaning to use the discount I get for being a student at my local gym. I would go to the one on campus but its like 30 minutes away.
im actually goin back to the gym within the next two weeks... or shortly after Fun Ford Weekend(aug. 18th) cant wait!!... i usually just do a 3-5 mile run sort of on the tredmill to get started... walk 1, jog 1, run 2 and walk the last mile... its good to get ur blood flowin and wakes u up... then i usually stick to a few machines and always finish a work out with abs... well atleast thats what i did a year a go.. gotta get rid of my beer gut now
Depends on what type of results you're hoping to achieve...What are your goals? More muscle mass, fat loss, strength/endurance?
I'm 21 years old - 200lbs, 5'10" & 7inches .... ....I'd like to lose some of my fat, and get more muscle on my arms and chest... My legs are already strong as hell [I've been snowboarding since I was eight].. I'd like to atleast get a flatter stomach, no nessericerlly a 6pack... [right now I have the whole keg ] I'm not trying to look like hercules here, just better...
Rather than me writing out a whole workout, visit www.bodybuilding.com or www.getbig.com and visit the workout sections, or the fat loss section at bodybuilding.com and read the stickys and it will give you the real info so you don't have to buy into any bs or wives tales. And yes, they're bodybuilding sites, but there are thousands of workouts to choose from and if you're not on gear you don't have to ever worry about looking like a bodybuilder (some people are afraid of that)...Lots of motivational posts over there too in case your dedication starts to ween, plus all the info there will keep you from wasting time you don't have to waste in the gym and will show you effective workouts...Good Luck!
You gotta work hard for results, just go there and do good workout , don't try to impress anybody by lifting some heavy iron and doing crappy moves, remember , can't cheat your own body.
hey nik, i went to that bodybuilding website last nite... i love how peopl eposted their own routines... i think i might use some... thanks
A good routine is: Monday, PECS Incline Bench Regular/ Widegrip Flat Bench Decline Bench Tuesday Back/Shoulders Lat pulldowns Deadlifts Free weights for shoulders Wednesday Biceps/Triceps Flexors Mostly freeweights, dumbells etc. Curls Reverse Curls Thursday Legs Lifts, etc Friday + Saturday I usually do cardio Sunday REST Saturday and sunday are good days to rest and relax, plus you REALLY need it.
If you're going to bother doing it at all, you might as well do it right. You can lift and run as much as you want, but without the proper diet you're only going to reach 50% of your potential. Obviously cut down on fats, etc. and take in more protein. A good rule of thumb to follow is to take in as many grams of protein as you want to weigh, ex: if you want to stay at 200lbs but turn fat into muscle take in 200 grams of protein a day. And just to give you an idea of how much 200 grams of protein is, 1 can of tuna is 45-50 grams of protein, so just eat 4 cans of tuna a day and you're set. Guaranteed within a week you will notice a difference. And FYI the healthy way to lose weight is to shoot for about 2lbs a week. Anything more and you could hurt yourself in the long run. Good luck man, let us know how everything is going in the future.
Yes, check out www.bodybuilding.com - by far the best I have found on the web! Cut first, then bulk later... I have used HIIT and Gorilla cardio before, it works It is quite difficult to gain muscle mass and loose fat... Nutrition is the vast majority of it, do not neglect it. Check out the nutrition forum and fat loss/cardio section... Going to the gym is great for one's self esteem and is productive. If you get a bit more into the gym, you can check out some supplements to help out later... There are some idiots out there that take pro-hormones, steriods, etc... I'm sure you won't
One more thing I forgot to mention is that if it's late at night and you're feeling the munchies coming on, drink a protein shake. The protein will actually cause your muscles to heat up and burn fat while you're sleeping.
Which is better - Whey or Casein? A slower digesting protein, as in casein is best before bed... Cottage Cheese is a good way to start... Fat intake can actually be pretty good for losing fat, believe it or not
congrats I stop going to the gym from about late June early July until the end of Aug...just too damn HOT. The gym I go to is 5-10 (depending on lights) from my job, and I live another 30-40min from there (depending on traffic). There is just no way I am sitting in a car hot as hell wore out trying to drive home in rush hour traffic. That aside I go about 2-3x's a week. I warm up with at least 10min. of cardio on a X-trainer (love the smooth movement/low impact). I work my abs every day as well, 2 machines (one rotating one, one "crunch" style), a side bend once a week, and 1 back press (think reverse of the "crunch" style). I do my back and shoulders one day (lat. pull, row, this shoulder press thing, ect) I do my arms one day (preach. curl, pull down, bar dip, curl with dumbell at least) focus on my chest (wide bench, incline, decline) Every once and while I do legs...found it really a waste to do it regular as within 4cycles of working them in regular I max out the machine/sled/equipment. I work out my calvs for a few weeks before going on a snowboarding trip and thats about it. I really dont go to "build", but more for all around fitness. I snowboard in the winter so I try to work all my muscle groups and foucs more on control and reps not max weight. You just feel better/less stress after working out even alittle. I am as well 5 11 and 208 or so. The only fat I have is my belly as I was slackin this winter and didnt start working out until May. I dont really care to have a 6pack...too much maint. keeping it. I wrestled from 6-16 and had enough of watching what I eat before meets.
I find the best thing to do is a good routine of heavy weights on a regular basis. I work each muscle group every other day for 20 mins. I do benching, curls and dead lifts on one day, then butterflies, overhead lifts, and weighted situps on the next. I just simply rotate that schedule every other day. I have a bench and about 450 pounds of free weights at home. Im 5'9" weigh around 160, bench 330, and curl about 150, so Im pretty happy with my results. The number one thing is to just stick with a simple workout that you can do every other day. I know I get crazy rip if I stick to my routine and never skip a day.
Come to my site: www.clutchfitness.com. I've got a bunch of Stangnet & other Mustang guys over there now. Lots of better info than you'll see peddled everywhere else (nothing is a standard, and shouldn't be treated as such), and none of the douchebaggery that usually comes with these sites.
Thanks for the advice. Can you suggest anything besides tuna that is high in protein? I really hate tuna... Even the smell of it makes me sick. Thanks a lot for the advice though, I really do apreciate it.
A can of tuna is not 50g of protein. Its appx 13g. You can buy whey protein powder, red meat, chicken ect. I like optimum nutrition 100% whey gold standard extreme milk chocolate. Mansonozz turned em on to that and it tastes amazing. 24g per scoop + other stuff. The only supplement i'd recommend is a GOOD multi vitamin. I use universal nutrition animal pak. Theres no better multi on the market. As long as you don't mind swallowing pills, theres 11 pills in each pack, 1 pack a day.
