Well, last Friday they had the "street race" at tlocal 1/8th mile track. I have never been to a track and thought it would be kinda fun. So I rolled out the vert and went over there. It was 5 bucks to race so I hopped in line. The embarrasment began. Obviously I'm nervous as hell, as I roll up to the box. Burnout was nice and the motor sounded good. Rolled up to the line and staged, tried to get the RPM's up for a good launch in 2nd...stalled! Restarted and ran the track. Next run the fiance wanted to go so she hopped in. I got up to the line and decided to launch in 1st...spun the tires but mustered a 10.147 at 75 mph. Third run, tried to stay on the line and the car rolled off the lip and through the beam. Redlight FTL! Overall, MPH was consistent 72-75 (with the added weight-but I cant tell her that) But I think I should be able to get that into the 9's. I really need to work on the launch and I should probably invest in a set of gears. The car is an 87 GT Vert with BBk shorties, O/R H-pipe, Coil, elec fan, no A/C and no smog, so it's no speed demon anyway. But it was fun and I will probably go back this friday! Any suggestions from you guys on how to get the ET down?
you should be in the 9's easily! you're on street tires so ditch the water box. just spin them over dry a few times and stage. put your rpms around 1200ish and ride the clutch out. should be good for a low 2.1x 60 ft. Get that 60 ft down and with that mph you'll be in the mid 9's easy. keep practicing, it's all in the launch.
LOL. Yeah that didn't help either. But once you get the launch down then your et's will drop dramatically. Good luck and let us know what it runs next time!
dont put 2 people in the back seat either, to help the "traction problem" LOL But yeah why were you launching in 2nd anyways?
Why would you start in 2nd gear.....or race with people in the back.....if you have bad trac. get slicks or dr's.....don't launch in 2nd!
Yeah good times! We all need to go back. I am doing the headers tomorrow,my dad didn't have to do jury duty today.
