I am new, and this is my first thread. I hope its in the right section. Well here goes...

See my parents want something newer for me, no more 80's BS. Even though i know plenty of reliable 80's cars. So now i have a choice. Escort will be sold within the next 5 days (on ebay). If that don't work i have a few ppl interested in the car anyway. Now that leaves me with 5k, there bouts. Parents want me to get either a low mile car <80k or a <12 year old car.

    First choice...
    '96 Stang GT

    - Silver
    - 5 speed
    - 103k on it
    - Mach 460 sound system
    - Exhaust (dunno how far back it goes yet, only saw muffs but it sounded pretty damn good)
    - Black cloth
    - Under drive pulleys
    - CAI
    - Drag radials on stock wheels

Thats all i know bout this car, it was pretty clean no dents or dings or anything. Fired right up and idled smoothly. Crack the throttle and you got a low burble. Asking price is $4,995. Now i know if i walked in there with say $4,400 cash. I'm sure he would take the deal. Thing is, i don't want a car someone has beat on...

    Second choice:
    '01 Stang 3.8

    - 5 speed
    - Silver
    - 42k on it
    - Grey cloth
    - One owner, (dad knew/knows him)

Yea, thats all i know. Its just your basic Mustang. Cloth interior, no Mach system. We can get it for $5,100 out the door. So there you have it. The ONLY two reasons for going for this V6 is, higher resale value, know the owner.

Insurance is nothing, both cars are about the same. It just really depends on what i want.

I'm curious to see what you guys have to say bout this. So please help if you can. :)

I would try to find a 96 - 98 GT with lower miles with absolutly no mods.
Then have a mechanic do a buyers check.

A v6 isn't going to have a higher resale value than a V8. I personally would never buy a v6 mustang, but thats just my opinion.

You can probably get into a 96 with a few less miles for your price range, just be patient.

Well its newer, with only 40k.. so like i looked up kbb and my other source and it shows a '01 V6 will sell for close to 7k with those miles. Though the market might be diffrent (what i think you saying).

I'd REALLY like a '95 GT.. I know a bit more of the 5.0 then the 4.6.. But the 4.6 is nice motor, so i though why not try one?

So your saying i can get a '96 with lower miles, for under $4400? Point me please! Ha

Get a fox body mustang(79-93) . 87-93 would be your best bet

Actually if i was to get a Fox, it would be a '89 to '92 5 speed. :) But something like that it too old, i guess for my mother. Although i'd personally kill for one. :D

Thats what i am thinking.. Buy the '01.. play with it for a bit, do some suspension work and just enjoy it.

i'd go for the 'o1 in this case

    a 5spd 3.8 with 190hp isn't terribly slow, but a 4.6 with 215hp isn't terribly fast either

i'd buy the 'o1, drop it a bit, around ~1in. with some eibachs or h&r's and quality shocks/struts, buy a nice shifter (mgw), throw some nice wheels on it, maybe some steeda ultralite's (you know, something different), a few suspension mods like a rear swaybar, sub-frame connecters, etc., leave it at that and just drive it

    that's just me though:shrug:

If you're gonna buy a '96-'98, find one unmolested with low miles. Trust me, its not always worth it to buy a modded one just cause of a few lil goodies.

well to answer your question.... get the v6. Its not fast, but its not slow. And im sure later down the road you can do a couple go fast mods and make it alittle quicker.
