With my 1998 GT 5 speed, I swap the rear end gears out from 2.73's to 3.73's. I have been all over the Internet and still have no idea what works and what doesn't. For speed correction I have read that people use an SCT tuner, the speedcal from brothers, and changing the small plastic gear.

What works and what doesn't!

I installed 3.73's and bought a speedcal. Works perfectly :nice: You cannot correct the rear gear ratio using a handheld tuner in the 1998 Mustang.

You can also replace the small plastic gear, but for some reason I recall people saying that these gears are prone to failure if replaced. The speedcal works well, and if you ever change gears or wheel +tire diameter in the future it is really easy to update the speedcal to compensate for it.
