im taking off my spoiler on my 99 gt, what would i use to fill the holes? and would i just use touch up paint to paint where the holes were? not opposed to getting it filled and painted professionally but would like to avoid the cost if i can make it look ok myself

also picked up some cobra side skirts cheap and i need to prep them for the body shop cause they are painted a dif color than my car, what grit sand paper do i use to get it stripped for them?

if you are going to get your side skirts painted you might as well get the holes filled and painted on your trunk. in the mean time home depot or lowes have some plastic snap plugs that you can use until you get around to filling the holes. personally, if it were my car i would get the holes filled and painted.

    do it yesterday wings s*#@K

yep you can do it yourself read up on how to online , did it on my 99 GT 7 years ago I hated that stupid heavy ugly wing !!!!! its the worst, actually I'm not fond of any wings maybe the real small ones like the chevy monte SS 1986 & one of the Mustangs 2003 had a small one .... best thing I ever did was yank of that wing ... everyone who saw the car after said it looked like a different car I also later removed all badges I had a shop later touch up the holes & paint when it went in for some body work ...but you can do a decent job , bondo , masking tape , wet sand paper the painting & matching is the tough part .... I saw a Acura TL done up nice all bages trim of any kind removed & was the sharpest looking machine the same guy he works in a body shop did an older maxima maybe a 1994 the same way ...really sharp ,like the other guy said you can use those snap things if your not ready i did , the wing just had to go ... the new mustang V6 look so great no silly wings ....

Guess everyone has different opinions on wings. I particularly am fond of them.

But anyway back to the post. Home depot sells small nylon plugs in their hardware isle that will fit. Simply paint them with touch up paint, add a little clear silicone and press them in and it will be a clean simple install.

You could fill them, but the trunk is a composite material so you can't weld and bondo like you would with a metal trunk. You're best bet there is to buy a v6 trunk and use that.

I took my wing off a few times but never liked it. I always ended up putting it back on in a few days. It does look good on some cars, esp lowered with deep dish wheels...but on stock GTs i like the wing

I second the wingless look going great with really low cars and deep dishes, if you don't have that look already might as well leave the wing on. Also on the 99 and 00 wings I thought the holes were right in line with the trunk edge, so if they were left unfilled water would not be going straight into the trunk like 01-04 wings would. But I would get the holes filled and not do the plastic cap thing, that's just ghetto.

well im not going spoilerless, i am installing a 03 cobra spoiler on there, so i guess im just gona take it and have the holes filled cause i just want it done right rather than a plug

can they just fill the hole and touch it up at a body shop or do they need to repaint whole decklid?

also anyone know what to use for side skirts to sand them down??

Personally, on the 99-00 GTs, I like the spoiler when it is moved back a little bit. I was blown away how much nicer it looked on my car!

They will probally just have to repaint the whole decklid to get it right.

Why not just let the paint shop prep the skirts? It will cost a little more money but while your already getting everything else done it won't be a huge difference in price.

cobra terminator ftw! the wingless look only looks good if it is lowered. gives it a smoother look. but thats only my opinion, the rule as always is its your car, do what ya want!:nice:
