So I was cruising on interstate 16 on my way to Savanah GA this weekend, and had a black SS pull up next to me and start doing the "wanna race" dance. We were even all through my third gear, but as soon as I shifted to fourth I started pulling him. When I finally braked, I had about a car and some change on him. What gives? It was a newer SS, 2000 or newer. What kinda engine do the have? Any one know there numbers? My head is starting to get huge here guys, I haven't had anyone beat me in my mustang since I got. Granted, I don't roll around looking for races all the time, but if it happens I'm game. Glad I switched over to the home team, no more of this four banger nonsense.:flag: :flag:

BTW I have a manual, with jlt II CAI and sct excal 93 oct tune. BBK pulleys.

They have the ls1 5.7 with 320 hp 345 tq. With your mods I wouldn't fear them as long as they arent to modded. I think they are like 13.5's and under from factory. Congrats on the kill.

If it's modded you would get your doors blown off. They are not to be messed with when modded. They look like crap, can't make a turn, but in a str8 line, they are rockets.

Well, I'm not going to say that all GMs fall apart after five years. In this instance, it's quite possible that this car was tired. Chances are he could have had over 100k on the clock. A healthy new mustang with a tune and pulleys does not surprise me beating a 2000 SS (even a modded one Vinnie). A lot of people overlook a car's age and condition.

My 5.0 with 125k hard hard hard miles, ran fine. Age has little to do with anything. As long as there is still good compression, any lose is minimal.

I have a buddy with a 01 SS. He has SLP loudmouth exhaust, SLP long tubes, tune, and intake. He dynoed at 341 rwhp and ran a 13.01 1/4 mile best.

He has street tires and has a problem hooking. He is hoping to run 12.8 this friday with his new slicks. We will see....

To be serious for a second, gearing could of had some thing to do with it. We were going kinda fast. ( I was pretty close to redlining 4th gear :nice: )

The later SS was dynoed by MM&FF and put 317rwhp thru their dyno. GM are famous for having under-rated the LS1's output. Personally I love 4th gen Camaros and when they put the SS round the track with a terminator, it wasn't too far behind despite the huge power deficiency (the Cobra dynoed near the claimed 390 at the back wheels). They are flexible in stock form and most people add subframe connectors and strut braces which tends to bump the weight up a little but makes them very good corner carvers (I had a Z28 and now have a s/c 2005 Mustang).

Much depends on whether the SS was an M6 or an auto. Also, the M6 is easy to wrong slot. I'm not making excuses for it because the Stang is turning in similar quarters but the stock SS ran something like a 13.25 over the quarter.

I love 4th gens. If they still made them, I'd probably still be driving one.
