i know this has been ask a million and one times but i just need a quick answer. what is the widest tire i can fit on a 17x8 rim? 255?
ok thanks i have to order to new tires so i was just going to go with 255. i dont want any sidewall flex or bulging. are 255 really any wider than a 245? if someone can will they post a pic of 255 or 275s on stock wheels?
I am running 275 Nitto Drag Radials on my stock 2001 5 spoke wheels and they look exactly the same as my front's running 245 Nitto 555's. I saw a picture of someone running 315 drag radials on stock 5 spokes, but it looked retarded. If you're going in a straight line ONLY - then feel free to do the same.
Usually the rule is 2" wider than the rim width. So 255 is the max recommended. In fact, Ford put 255/45/17's on the 94-95 Cobras with 17x8's, but then stepped down to 245/45/17 for every other 17x8 setup. But guys have stretched wider rubber on there. I've seen 315's on a bullitt wheel. But with the bulge you start getting sidewall flex and the car will actually rock on the sidewalls if you push it from the side.
i have 275 on mine also, They look great and the car handles well. I would go as wide as you could safely go.
