I checked for some threads, did not find any.

Anyone supercharge a stock motor? how about a high miles stock motor? Any issues? big gains? or better off spending $$ on heads and cam?

I feel if the car is in good running condition the supercharger is a great way to go. Just size it accordingly to your future plans, H/C/I, etc...

A Leakdown and Compression test will give you a good indication of the shape of your motor.

Thanks for the response. Will a 8 lb psi add a noticable difference in power (+75 hp)?

I have a 91 Mustang with 130,000+ miles. The motor is stock with no upgraded internals or bolt on upgrades. I installed a Powerdyne 9psi supercharger a few months ago and have had no problems. The car runs strong and makes 270rwhp/322tq.

I didn't get it dynoed before the supercharger but I'm sure it was probably in the 180rwhp or less range. Even for Powerdyne I gained a significant amount of power and I love it.

I probably spent around $2,500 on the supercharger, fuel mods, chip, and tuning. I also installed everything my self.

The reason I decided to bolt on a supercharger is because I didn't think it would make since to only upgrade the heads and cam on an engine with 130,000 miles on it. The engine would need a total upgrade and rebuild which would be very expensive and since my engine was still running strong it would be unnecessary. I'm going to just keep the engine stock for now and get as many more miles as I can out of it then upgrade/rebuild the engine once it goes.

If you decide to go with anything other than Powerdyne, 9psi will probably give you around 320-350rwhp with increased cost.

I'm just about done putting my blower on my stock engine. I followed the same logic above, which was if i'm going to do the H/C/I, i should just rebuild the whole motor and i didnt want to do that just yet. I should be running either 8 or ~12, depending on which pulley i go with. I'll let you know how it works in a couple weeks when i get home.

Absolutely stock engine, with just an H-pipe and flowmasters. I installed the Vortech SC-Trim supercharger at 107,000 miles... it has 109,000 + on it now and its my Daily Driver and I have had 0 problems with it. I have no idea how much power increased as I do not have any dyno #s, however, even at the entry level 5 psi kit I was able to take out my buddies 94 lt1 Camaro which used to pull away from me right as I went into third gear by about 3 cars... Now I can stay ahead a consistent 2 cars untill the top of third then I pull another 2-3 cars on him and keep it like that. If you got any more questions feel free to ask.

Dont you need to replace the stock head gaskets. i heard that they will hold up to 8psi, anything above that they will blow out, is that correct?

Ford said to use their graphite head gaskets or equvelt.

Thnks fo rthe response - My engine runs strong, does not burn any oil and has 103k on it. I am considering the vortech kit that is adjustable PSI between 8-12. I want the loud supercharger. I want people to know that I have it if I am spending that much money on it. I only dirve my car on nice days and pretty short trips. I Mostly just go to cruise ins and cars shows. So it will not see alot of action, but when I do drive it, I like to have fun with it. I was also conserned about the stock head gaskets. Does the vortech kit come with the MSD timing retard and fuel management system?

100% stock engine running 10psi from a SC-trim(the cheap blower) made 357.1rwhp SAE on my car rich as a pig.

*Edit* on 100% stock that is power mods, I do have bigger injectors and fuel pump but I mean h/c/i and TB and stuff like that is stock. :nice:

I am ordering the Vortech S trim satin finish. From what I understand, you can run from 8 to 12 psi on this unit.

I have been looking at some sites and I can not tell if the S trim comes with the boost retard/msd/etc... Does any one know the difference between S trim and T trim vortech?

Yes the S-trim kits come with the FMU and Vortech Boost Retard, along with a T-rex inline pump and the bypass set-up.

The T-trim will make more boost, flow more air and it is a peaky blower as far as the boost, it will go 0-15 very quick unlike the S which will ramp up nicely. They don't call the T-trim "Block Breakers" for nothing ;)

I got a quote of $2959 for the S trim kit. Sound reasonable?

They might be? I may be getting ripped off. I know it comes with the MSD, trex pump and everything you need to install.
