I talked with him for a bit. I asked him about warranty, modding the ecu, diffrent chips, etc. He said diablo chips are the worst, sct was decent. Yes, installing one of these voids your warranty. Yes, they are able to see if the ecu has been tampered with, and yes this does void your warranty entirely (since they cant see what you did, they will assume the worst). according to him, when you bring it in for warranty, this is the very first thing they check. IF they see its tampered with, they immediatly enter your vin into a databse and your warranty is terminated then.

not sure if this is legal, but i didnt read the warranty fine print. Just kinda sucks to have a new car and void the warranty in the first few months of owning it. Im glad i didnt order my tuner yet. Now i just need to find a CIA that doesnt require a tune.

some may know this already, just thought i would let everyone know what my ford machanic said. (i cant name his name or dealership, as they are not supposed to tell you this. All i can say is this dealership is in the top 5 for total sales this year, and in the top 5 for the last few years.

My dealership told me the exact opposite about getting the car tuned and getting a CAI. As I always understood it, the general rule of thumb is that it only voids the warranty if they can prove the tune caused the damage in question.

My dealership is now a Roush dealer so they're installing blowers and doing tunes themselves and still honouring warranties (don't know if they'd still honour the warranties if I did it somewhere else, even though they said before getting a tune wouldn't void it). They're even dealing in some Ford Racing products as well which will not void the warranty (including I think the drag pack, which includes a tune and CAI).

Bottomline is that there seems to be a lot of conflicting information out there on this issue so be cautious. I guess it really just depends on how your dealer chooses to deal with it. I'm lucky enough to have a dealer who realizes the size of the Mustang after-market and is becoming part of it, rather than one who will argue that the warranty is voided with every little mod.

Sacha.... you are correct. The damage to the part or parts has to be directly linked to the modification made by the owner in order to void "that" particular claim. At no time does it entirely void your warrenty. Read the MOSS papers and it will give you the details. I have had several warranty items fixed at three different dealers. So far no problems. That was with a custom tune, CAI, Springs, Dampers / Struts, Shifter and many other smaller items.
