Tip Accel Problem

    Hi Floks,

    I have been tuning on the Mad Pony for about a month now, small issues like bad O2 sensors, Bad MAF. Well I finally have most of the bugs worked out. BUT... No matter what I do and any value I change, when I accelarate, It always goes lean to like 16.5-17 on the LM-1.

    I have messed with the manifold_volume scalar, and have tries values from 2 all the way up to 7.

    If anyone has experienced similar, I would love to figure this one out.

    I have had more successful experience with the j4j1 than the t4m0.

    Many others have as well.

    I bring it up cause besides the different way it treats load than the t4m0, it does not have as many of those dadgum + or - scalars, functions, and the like to hose around your fuel and spark values.

    Have you ever considered using it as a foundation for your tune?

    Can you be a bit more specific with details of:

    driving conditions during test run
    is wb outputted to CalCon
    what is fuel ratio before wot
    etc

    Just kind of paint us a more detailed pic I guess is what I'm asking.

    Driving conditions

    My goal in building this car was to come up with a street driveable machine, that has a little extra oommmff. WOT is not my concern. The wideband is not currently hooked up to calcon (been busy fixing problems, and am burned out right now)

    Pretty much anytime you accelerate say from a standing start goes lean, during shifts goes lean. Each time it goes lean it hesitates, which I assume is from going lean.

    I tried the J4J1 from a bin I found on the net but could not get it to run worth a damn. :bang: So I went back to the T4M0. If you look at the hego's at the same time as the WB, they peg lean as can be for about 4 seconds, then go rich at the same time the WB goes to about 13.1 under normal conditions.

    I used the manifold scalar tweec for help with a lean spike I had when driving at a steady cruise in CL and then to OL wot. I don't think that scalar would be applicable for what conditions you are describing.

    As for the O2's ... I gotta confess to you ..................

    I really don't pay much attention to O2's except during CL and then, if the truth be made known, I usually look at the KAMRF & Lambse values. They drop out during OL or WOT anyway. I very rarely look or dl them.

    Not sure where to tell you to start to look for the fix.

    You could have inj values that need a bit of tweecing, or most likely, a maf curve that needs to be closer. Don't know if you have done any work with your fuel tables as well.

    I know this is very general info but

    most peeps get the maf curve in good shape for the first step
    then move on to setting up the inj values if needed
    then do what tweecing is needed for a stable CL operation
    and finally, move on to WOT tuning

    Have you loaded in your maf curve and inj values
    OR
    Are you still using your maf in Cheat Mode?

    I have been posting at the dead site. Yes I have got the fuel and maf dialed in. I used EA, have done a lot of datalogging. I am using real mode on everything. I dont believe in hacks per say. The maf is derived from ea. the injector slopes are the same. I have set the idle up and everything is smooth right now. the only issue I have is that lean spike.

    One other thing. this beast seems to want a lot of timing. at idle I am running about 35* BTDC. if I back it off anymore it runs terrible.

    The only other thing I may have some doubt about is injector timing. I am not sure wether to use leading edge or trailing edge. My stock injector timing was 280* on everything.

    If your using the t4mo program and have the t4mo breakpoint, setting the inj. slopes the same might be a problem....

    I had some issues with running a mix of j4j1/t4m0 breakpoint and slope settings. It seems that if your running one it needs to be in that format and not both. Basicly, with the breakpoint of the t4m0 use the diff. slope style and start with the # and # x 1.2 for the slopts, if using the j4j1 breakpoint use the same method.

    FWIW I run the t4m0 breakpoint and slope on my j4j1 and had alot better results.

    I gotta agree 100% :nice:

    This kinda stuff all stems from the t4mo uses offsets MUCH larger than j4j1

    It is important to take into consideration how the offsets can greatly effect everything :)

    You can just about (within reason) use ANY slope value but your offsets are gonna be way different.

    I don't run the same low/high slope value myself.

    As for the breakpoint ... I just don't remember :shrug:

    My offsets are a Heinz 57 variaty kinda thing :rlaugh:

    Their final values ended up being ... what worked :D

    Aaargh

    Well its back to the drawing board. My distributor siezed up and tore of the cam gears. So I wil lbe getting a new cam. So I may as well start over again. Does nyone have a good J4J1 bin I can use, or know where I can find one?

    I noticed that as well, it looks like a great site I just wish it had the depth of info like the eectuner forum does. I noticed D. Woodall is over there along with Clint so I feel confident that if someone needs help they will get it.

    That download section is preaty topshelf IMHO
