It sounds like MGW shifters are excellent pieces. The lady on the phone at MGW said "near the end of the year" for the 05s. What do you guys think this means? Should I wait it out or go with a steeda or pro 5.0? I would like to get a new shifter soon, but i dont want to wait till december. Anyone heard anything?
Are the Pro 5.0's out already? I have been waiting from some word on these for awhile now. But I have not seen any advertised yet.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hey I work for pro 5.0. We both use billet components through out. We think Steeda made a great shifter. Just to tell you about our shifter, we use anodized steel on all of the wearable parts that take the most abuse. We also use a highly porous Teflon material for our center ball. It is the same material that doctors use for hip replacements because it is sooo durable. The Quality of the material also makes it self lubricating. It is permeated with Lucas grease. It took us 2 years just to decide on the best grease to use. We pride ourselves on making the best and we also commend Steeda for coming out with ever better products that help us push ourselves to the limit of technology, Materials, and craftsmanship. On the other hand MGW usually makes the less expensive shifters on the market.
MGW Their shifter for the new 'Stangs is supposed to be in production and to be released in March, according to their web site. I'm waiting for them.
I hear the Pro50 is a copy of the Steeda. It may be slightly improved, but is a copy. Steeda is working on a bracket that will eliminate the shifter from mounting to the car's body (tranny tunnel) and will be attached to the transmission only. As far as MGW goes, they make some nice shifters and the new one will allow the user to adjust the throw length from anywhere near stock to up to 50% shorter or anywhere in between. Sounds like a winner.
Buy a used Steeda or Hurst, then when the MGW comes out, sell the Steeda/Hurst/Pro 5.0 and get an MGW.
Shifter Upgrade Hey, If you want a better shifter-"on the cheap", I can tell you how to do it- I DID IT!. If you get the short shift adapter from Steeda, and the harder neoprene mounting pieces from Saleen, you'll have a damn good feeling shifter and only spend $50 or maybe just a bit more. Both pieces are an easy install. I have had them installed for 9 or 10 months and haven't had any problems with the setup. The adapter shortens the shift by I think 30%, and the hard neoprene mounts take a lot of the sloppy, rubbery feel out. It might not be like having a new TriAx, but it's pretty damn good and a good bit cheaper. IF I decide to replace my shifter, it will be with the MGW.
I saw the preview vids on MGW's website and I gotta say, it looks amazing. Sounds like they are only going to be releasing a model for the GT, but I can only hope they make a version for the V6. Anyone have any info on whether or not they plan to make a V6 version too?
I had a pro 5.0 in my '93, and a Steeda in my '05; both are great. Unnoticeable differences, if any, in feel and performance.
I had the pro 5.0 in my 5.0 and loved it! So if it's close to the Steeda and I live 15 mins from Steeda, I guess I'll go with Steeda, unless anyone has any horror stories.
It's too risky to buy a product that is that new, it hasn't been put thru it's paces yet out in the wild, you are truly buying a prototype just like all the 05 owners found out thus why I'm going with the Steeda, I took a tour of their place before the 05 went on sale and they already had the shifter ready to go.
not yet but soon i hope, theres a video on mgw website of the testing of the shifter, oh and its not a prototype the shifter was completed a year ago mgw is just fully testing to make sure there are no problems before they relelase it, which steeda did not do at all.
How do u think a shifter ready to go before the car was sold is better, it obviously was never tested???
MGW MGW stuff is known to be top notch. The shifter is supposed to be released between now and the end of March. When it is released, it will be ready for battle!
