i have a 98 cobra and 4th is giving me problems. it slips out of gear and grinds sometimes. im thinking the bolt on my short throw shift is not allowing me to fully engauge in to 4th but it grinds and slips out of gear. so it might be the sncro's . can only one gear fail?

'ello.. I guess it could be possible that the short throw shifter isn't engaging all the way. But the grinding would be caused by the synchro going bad for that gear. I don't know a whole lot about it, but I've heard that the 1st to 2nd is the most common one to go out. I have a 98 cobra as well and it'll grind from 4th to 5th if I don't pause in neutral during the shift. Hopefully, not too expensive. Anyone else have some input?

I love my 98 Cobra, but the tranny is and always has been a piece of s***. Mine grinds to 2nd on a hard shift anywhere over 6000 rpm if it goes at all. They say using the shift forks from a 99 will cure the problem, but...? And yes, 1 bad syncro is possible.
