use a vacum guage on the full vacuum port and adjust the idle mixture screws until you get the highest possible vacuum reading. But first make sure th dwell and timing are set correctly.
That's great if you know there's no vacuum leaks, you know the float's set correctly, the carb hasn't been "played with" and if all you're trying to do is set a decent idle. Personally, I'd like a little more info about what the symptoms are and what we're actually working on.
