*DOH! it should say " Well I DID IT AGAIN!" for the title. :nonono:

    Yea... I did it again...

    I turbocharged yet ANOTHER stang.

    Its a 1988 2.3 LX

So far got everything working, minus the intake pipe, as we dont know what to expect.

I have no experience with 2.3's, but my partner wanted a turbo, so I did my creation to it.

Used a stock header, flipped it, welded my custom flange and bolted up a .42/.48 turbo on her.

Looks like it will work just fine, but what to expect with the computer?

We have timing retarted quite a bit to compensate, but I have no idea what to expect with the performance as this is a speed density vehicle.

I have a chance to buy a 83-84 turbocoupe computer.. will this mean anything? I also have a chance to buy a AIR VANE, but not sure if this will have any effect because I do not have the AIR VANE harness.

So if you guys know what to do to help me get this thing running good, I appreciate it VERY MUCH.

I also have a 190lph fuel pump laying around and Volvo 740 turbo injectors(i believe the same as turbocoupe injectors).

Maybe a fuel pressure gauge from a 5.0 will fit?

    Thanks a lot in advance.

Why did you flip the manifold? It's the stock n/a manifold isn't it?
It will need the computer, injectors, and vane meter or it will never
    run right.

    yes sir the stock manifold.

He was on a ZERO budget to make it work, but I do have the injectors.

    What year computer?

And how would I connect the VANE meter?

But for now can it run?

Possibly with only 4psi? Just to get around?

I dont know ANYTHING about 2.3's except they are dependable enough for me to get around when I cant drive any of the V8's and the auto trannys love to blow seals.

    Thanks!

    Volvo computer? No.

Order a computer? No, just buy a used one. Any turbo coupe, merkur, etc. computer will work. Just make sure you get a vam that is matched to the style the computer uses (some use the small 2.5" inlet vams and some use the larger 3" inlet units).

You just wire the vam into the stock harness. If you look on my site you will see the 87-90 swap instructions that show you what to do with the wires.

    Thanks Stinger,

My only quesiton is, is this usable with the stock computer? or is this just a diagram to splice the VAM into the new computer(turbo computer).

My job was just to fab the turbo, I guess now its to make it work.(suppose to be another guys job, but he said he is going on vacation for 2 weeks)

So I am 99% sure that diagram is using the stock harness but just re-pinning the computer harness to adapt to a LA3 computer, and not the stock one, correct?

Thanks a lot for your patients.

PS: when I said order, I meant order one from the junkyard(yea they deliver in NYC) :nice:

Is there any verification to knowing which computer uses what size VAM?

That is for using the LA3 computer and wiring the vam into the stock harness to go with the turbo computer. The la3 uses a large vam. All 87-88 TC's, All SVO's, had large vams, all merkurs, 83-86 TC's, etc. had small vams.
