to get my 289 heads cleaned up, putting bigger stuff in them, or gettin some heads off an explorer and giving them a bath and new valves?
Sorry, I just remember this coming up in an earlier thread that the gt40P and the gt40 heads require different exhaust due to, I believe, a sending unit port. I only pointed it out because I remember the ongoing saga with you header p/s conflict and wouldn't want to see you go through that again if it wasn't neccessary.
the front exhaust pipe on tri-y's on the left cylinder head will not clear the spark plug...if you are good at welding and can splice in an extra 2 inches of pipe into it...then they will work fine...they clear the right head fine.
I didn't think you wanted to, that's why I thought I'd better give you the vague information yesterday. Sorry it took so long to find the actual facts.
no problems. i got a lil bit before i start payin for stuff. thanks! so now that gt40s are out of the question....
go get a set of windsor jr heads. they will use your same headers with no problem, and will add more power than even the gt40 heads will. they also use chevy valves 1.94in/1.60ex so parts are readily available, and inexpensive.
It costs money to make horsepower. If you get say, a set of 351w heads, and do what you need to make them work in todays world, like thermactor porting, hardened seats, screw in studs, 3 angle valve job, etc, you will easily spend what it costs to get a decent set of aftermarket heads like Windsor Jrs.
As far as I know only the "P" heads have the relocated spark plugs. The regular gt40s should be fine.
So (hitchhiking again here), if a guy gets the Windsor Jr heads, what mods have to be done to get them to work on a 289?
