i want to move the stock '96 17" cobra rims out of the wheelwell more. i was thinking of putting wheel spacers on all 4 wheels. are there any downsides to wheel spacers? if not, what is a good width? at what width does it look excessive? will it look alright from behind with 245 tires? what width do you use? any pics? thanks. the car is at stock ride height at the moment but i plan to lower it in the near future. will i have clearence/turning problems with the spacers?
Most people use 25mm spacers (1 inch) from www.maximummotorsports.com . They sell hubcentric spacers, so you don't shorten the amount of the wheel stud that you have to torque the lug nuts onto. A friend just purchased these and made his Nitto 275/40/17's fit flush like it should. He is also lowered by 1 1/4" using the Eibach springs. I have 295/35/18's out back so I don't need any spacers.
Got a picture of your friend's ride? I've been looking at getting these spacers for some time now and not really sure what size I should get. I still have the stock 17"x9" '01 Cobra wheels and 245/24/17 tires with H&R Supersport springs. I really want the rear tires to sit flush with the fender well like the fronts do. Is 25mm gonna get me there or should I go larger?
I have the 1" H&R spacers on my rear stock rims and now they are flush with the wheel wells. I'm very happy with them.
Yeah, i also have the H and R 25mm and they are great, noticed an immediate improvement. If you go larger they will stick out and look like crap.
There we go, it finally worked! Looks nice since I think we have the same exact car with the polished wheels. How much of a drop did you get with Eibach springs? You have a Bassani exhaust system on your car...the tips look good? How do you like the setup? Did you put on a X-pipe? Any other mods to your car that you really liked?
You should just bolt them on since the studs from the spacers are offset from where your studs bolt on from the wheel hub. The installation instructions from Maximum Motorsports say that the old studs may need to be cut based on the thickness of the spacer. Did you have to cut the old studs when using the 25mm spacers?
Yeah, I didn't notice that we had exact same cars until after I posted. It's a 1.5" drop, I got the Prokit. I love the Bassani's, I turn my radio off just so I can hear the exhaust note. They are the X-Pipe setup. I love the Koni yellows adjustable shocks I put on the car. It drives like a different car, hugs the road. Infact, I just ran malibu canyon last weekend and had full confidence with the suspension setup I had. I would have to say my favorite mod would be the Bassani's with the Koni's in a close second. Glad the picture worked, hope it helps. Oh yeah, to answer the other question about any cutting. NO cutting was done or needed at ALL. It's a simple bolt on, as easy as putting your tires on. The only thing you would want to make sure is; clean the surface of the hub and make sure you replace or discard the lock washers (not sure exact name)...I personally discarded them. You'll know what I'm talking about when you pull your tire off.
Glad they helped. Lock washers is probably not the correct name. When you take your wheels off, look at your bolts on the hub. It might have one or two washers on your bolts. I had to take them off so the new spacers would sit flush, it does not hurt any to tear them off. I'm not sure but it might mention it in the H&R install instructions.
I'm new here and found your post...I have an '01 Cobra Convertible and I want to put on spacers as well using the stock rims and without having to cut or trim studs. Do the 1" H&R's go right on without having to trim anything? Thanks! racertb
