where to buy rear end gears

I was just wondering if anyone knew of a good place or website that sold 8 inch gears? I need to upgrade from the 2.80 gears i have cause i read if you go manual transmission you have to have at least 3.50 gears.

You don't have to have 3.50 with a manual. I got my 4.11's from summit and haven't had an issue with them.

you don't NEED them, although unless you have an incredibly torquey engine you will lug in 5th(i really mean overdrive) with 2.80s. then 3.50's will really help you out. some like 4.11's tho i hear ; ).

My 8.8 is out of a 95 GT. The car it came out of had a T-5 with 2.73 gears. The only manuals I have heard need a lot of gear is the close ratio top loaders due to high first gear.

summit racing and currie enterprises both have stuff for the 8" rear end.

Then your 392 must make less torque down low than a stock 5.0. It is probably the tune.

Are we talking about a car with or without overdrive?

Any big parts house should have or be able to get a full selection of Ford 8" ring & pinion sets.

Who said that? All the 5-speed 5.0 GTs came with leggy diff gears. I don't about all the years, but the '87-93 5-speed cars were optioned only with 2.73s or 3.08s. I had 3.00s in my '68 when I put the 4-speed in and they would have worked fine with a stock engine. They were certainly better on the highway than my current 3.50s(~3000rpm @ 65mph).

I had 2.50's in my 67 FB with the 427. GREAT freeway cruisin with em. 1/4 mile was in the low 13 sec. range. Transmission was a wide ratio small block Toploader.
