Why won't alternator gauge work?

I put a new battery in my car along with a new alternator and voltage regulator (original style). Immideatly the battery began to spray acid all over the engine compartment, so I replaced the voltage regulator with an electric one I had laying around. That stopped the battery from over charging but now the alternator guage doesn't work. I don't think the battery is holding much of a charge so I will soon replace it. Any idea what could be wrong? Also, as I mentioned in a different thread, the car seems to idle really bad now.

Where exactly does the alternator gauge hook up? Could the problem be caused by the electronic voltage regulator?

LOL...I don't know if I have ever seen a 60s Mustang where the Alt gauge will even move!

The gauge used to work fine..... what normally breaks on them?

I agree, good article. Does any one know if there is a fuse for the ammeter in a '69 mustang? Also, what connections would make the ammeter work? I still think that it has something to do with the electronic regulator verses the standard type... any suggestions?
