Superchatged Fox and rear gear info.

Ive started this thread as i have not found exactly what im looking for. Im just wanting to know if 4.xx gear ratios would be bad for a 5 speed foxbody with a vortech v1 blower.
Car makes 5-6 psi now, but will be tuned at 10 psi and on methanol kit. Makes 310 to the wheels as of now.

It currently has stock 3.08 gears from the factory.

I like that it climbs in 4th gear but dont like that i have no "get up" in 2nd and 3rd gear and 5th is useless pretty much.
Would i still benefit from a 3.73 gear ratio if i want to have more top end over a 3.55 or is the difference minimal? Between those two.

Last question... Is 4.30/4.10 too much etc. Street wheel would be a factory mesh 16" Saleen with a 235/60-16 .
I could run whatever slick diameter would be needed for the 4.xx series ratios, or drag radial.

I run 3.08's in my s/c 95. 3.55's usually what most people like.. but it's all up to the person.. I like to be able to cruise comfy at 70 and not be turning 3k rpms lol

anything 4.xx is usually too much imo.. with that much rwhp 1st and 2nd are pretty useless.. my car lights em up through 3rd.. soooo... I may stick to my 3.08's lol.

I swapped to a 3.08 from a 373 gear in my car. The 373 had a explosive feel with the 10psi the car makes but was way to violent... the 3.08 calmed the car down but I think something between 3.23 and 3.55 would have been a better option.

My 10psi 302 puts down 400hp at the wheel. I have 3.73's and they run out really quick. I'd rather have 3.55's. No way would I recommend 4.10's

One cool thing about the 3.73’s and stock cam is the range of use. This is the truth > I can drive as slow as 20 and as fast as 115, everything in between, all in 4th gear. Seriously, it will still climb an incline in 4th at 20mph.

Seen a post about the lincoln lsc rear end in a fox i can get one cheap along with ranger axles 2 driver side so it wont stick out do i need to change the brakes at all i hrar i had to switch the caliper hanger from side to side

Only time i drive far is when i go on leave from wa to cali. But car lacks low end and doesnt have get up power i want. Feels lazy with 3.08. My svo was Na with a 306 and 3.73 and was pretty quick. Faster low end than this car and without the boost. I only make boost past 4000-4500 anyway. The 3.08s suck lol.

I drive the mountains from washington, through oregin and into northern california. I have no issues on the uphills even in 4th. Feels more like 3rd gear when in 4th and picks up fine, but not at 20 lol. I loved my svo with 3.73s and a 306. Motor didnt breathe enough past 5600 though. Was defonitely fun from digs against coyotes and other cars.

With what mines makes right now i cant spin the tires even in second lol. I wish i could spin them in 3rd. Boost comes in at arouns 4k +. MY last few mustangs had 3.73's and 4.10, but only one was supercharged, 5.0 with m112 eaton and 12 psi. And it ran really good with no complaints. Just wondering about the 4.xx series gear ratios with centrifugal blown cars since it takes rpm to make boost. Lower gears would keep me in boost but lack top end. Looks like the in between is 3.55? 3.73?

Keep in mind, suspension will be completely gone through.

You had a 5.0 with a M112 huh? Custom job, I have one as well. Was yours a joeystang monstrosity? Lol. I made my own setup.

Nope, not sure who joeystang is lol. Kind of did a junkyard build up. Cut part of a jaguar blower off and mounted up top as a pusher. Did it after i seen Alexltd i believe his name was on other forums.

I see you're running a Jag blower as well. Good stuff. I wanted mine mad max-ish lol but that was 6 years ago i think? Have no idea where the car is now, i was going to use a termi blower on my svo but never went through with it. Might do it to my saleen some day but with a whipple.

AFR 185's with 2.02 valves, Edelbrock RPM, nice crane cam, 1.7's, 42's, 90mm maf, 6al, 12 lbs, etc.etc.. made over 500 at wheels, and even with 3.08's it never feels sluggish.. that I promise.

3.55 usually best for people in between the low and high end of gears. Any less and it's meh.. any more and it's over the top.. Some really like 3.27's too

Yeah i dont have 500+ lol. Maybe thats why, are you running a factory block??

I have to ask why it only makes boost at 4k rpms and up? Seems like it should build befor that.

Possibly being a small crank pulley and big blower pulley and highway gears in the rear end. Centri blowers are almost always mid range and up blowers. Thats the tradeoff between Roots, twinscrew and centrifugal and then turbos. My roots car made it right off the bat, explosive torque and boost was there when i stepped on the gas. This one isnt in boost when regular driving.

3.55 is usually the best all around option . Boost from 4K and up ? I’d say it’s linear with the centri blowers from my experience . I’m not sure whwtxpulley setup you have . Sounds to me like a 3.33 /6.87 deal . A real pulley would give it a kick in the ass .

I'm a n/a guy right now  .
you have a small window of boost opportunity, and only 4-5 pounds.
i agree with toolow91, you need to pulley that thing up, with 10 lbs and a gear around 320 something to 355 max you'll need stock in a tire store. I think you need to get the boost to come on a little lower in the rpms then a 308 or 323 gear will work. Most fox convertible 5.0 cars came with a 320 something gear in them, thats what I would shoot for.
disclaimer: the advice given is not based on any real world experience, just the rantings of a guy that hangs out on a mustang forum with members that are WAY smarter than he is.

Haven't measured perfectly, but off the top of my head its a little over 6 inches for the crank and blower is definitely 3.15 from the last time i stuck my hands in between the radiator and fan/Pulley lol. Oh i know pulley changes would make a difference, But i want to change gearing at the same time, along with new fuel delivery.
And yes 4k ish unless im in 1st gear and dump the clutch. Then it gets there quick. Make boost with rpms with a centrifugal, but with 3.08s and sorry pulleys, not much is happening. Thats the good thing and bad thing about them. Its like stock all day long til downshifting, etc. I can get decent fuel mileage wherever i go, the moment i downshift or floor it, it changes. Not always in boost in the lower rpms. I like... But then i dislike.
135-140 bucks gets me from Ft Lewis, Washington to Stockton, California. Driving normally and the speed limit. But it needs more power lol.
