I am rebuilding the motor in my car and i am needing to buy the igniton parts now. i need a distributor and coil but dont want to spend tons of money. it is basically a stock rebuild so what would be good to use without breaking the bank?

You can get a Duraspark setup.

I went the stock distributor + Flamethrower coil and Ignitor setup to get rid of the points.

Also a good time to look at your engine grounds.

+1 on checking engine grounds, when I did, I found a couple were bad. Fixed them and it solved a number of little annoying problems like dimming headlights and instrument lights and flickering power to the CD player...

If you are buying a dist, go with a ford duraspark setup. You could also keep your existing dist and do a pertronix converson.

I did this, but used a MSD Blaster coil instead because of availability. No complaints.

EDIT: Sorry, you were asking about budget. A used single breaker point distributor should cost pennies if you don't already have one. The Pertronix Ignitor II is about $100.00 and the coil I believe is around $60.00 give or take.

not to sound dumb but i take it i can get the ford duraspark dis from ford? i dont have a ditributor at all and this is all that is really holding me up now so im wanting to get it pretty soon.

You should be able to find a reasonably priced rebuilt one at just about any auto parts store.

Oh yeah, if you get the duraspark dont forget to get a module also... Do a search for duraspark wiring, there are a lot of diagrams on how to wire it up on the net.
