i have a mechanical 2 1/16 autometer phantom gauge i'm going to mount in a cup on my cowl panel. i have everything i need except the correct fittings! i'm not a hose and fittings wizards, but i THINK the back of the gauge has a male -4AN, and both ends of my braided hose is -4AN. now, this would lead me to assume i need a -4AN 90* elbow for the back of the gauge, but what fitting do i need to go from the -4AN fitting on the braided hose to the schrader valve on my fuel rail? i don't what size that is! thanks!

You can buy the Autometer Stainless Steel braided hose for like $60. Or a local shop that makes hydraulic hose assemblies can make it for you at a cheaper price. Ordinary low pressure hydraulic hose can be used in place of the Stainless Steel braided hose, the Stainless Steel braided hose just looks nice. I got mine for $4 at a place that sells industrial and military surplus parts of all kinds. The Stainless Steel braided hose goes for about $3.60 a foot and the fittings are probably about $5-$8 each. You can make your own and save some $$$, the shops may have a setup or labor charge to fabricate the hose assembly.

Safety device to prevent major fuel loss in the event of a failure of the hose, fittings or gauge...

cool, thanks for the replies guys. so is the schrader valve an NPT fitting or a pipe thread fitting? and is it 1/8 or 1/16? and if i get the fitting in the first link you showed me richker and what blown83gt showed me, that still puts me male to male at the schrader valve. where do i get a coupler for that? sorry for all the questions, thank for the replies! :SNSign:

The fitting on the fuel line is 1/16" pipe. You need a AN 4 to 1/16" pipe fitting if you hose has AN 4 fittings on it.

"NPT" and "pipe thread fitting" are the exact same thing.

npt stands for national pipe thread.

i am mounting my mech FP gauge in my cowl hood, on the backside of the cowl.

the gauge has a -4AN male
i bought the 1/16 pipe to -4 AN male adapter, its screws into the fuel rail. then i bought some autometer braided stainless line. quite pricey but it very nice. i bought 6 ft (way too long) for like 55 bucks or so.

on your setup you will need to add a 90* fitting, -4 male to -4 female.

and the braided line i got from autometer has female ends on both ends.

it sounds like you're doing/using the same exact thing as me foxfan. i have the gauge and cup already, as well as 2' of stainless braided hose with female -4an connectors on both ends. i know i need a 90* male to female -4an fitting and i know i can find it. where'd you get the 1/16pipe to -4an male adapter foxfan? i can't seem to find one with a female pipe fitting.
