Now that my aod transmissions has gone bad, I am planing on swaping out my aod in favor of a t5 for my 88 mustang. but i am not sure what exactly i am going to need for the swap. I also wanted to know if manual v6 sn95s had t5s in them and if so could i use the transmission and all of its components for the swap. thanks for reading my question and any help will be appreciated:shrug:

I am going off a failing memory but I think the 6 and 4 cyl. trannies have a smaller input shaft, so you can run it but you have to get the appropriate down sized pilot bearing. I know it is true for the older ones but not positive on the newers but the 4 and 6 cyl. trannies are a good deal weaker.

try and get a t5 from a 5.0l cause they are stronger and u pay about the same for the v6 one and it will last longer.. the output spline is the same as the aod but u might need to install a spacer on the rear of the driveshaft ...just ck the depth of the yoke in the aod b4 u take it out and make sure that when u unstall the t5 that u have about the same depth going in..to little is bad....thats why motosport makes a spacer for the aod/t5 swap...u also have to get a pedal assy..50 oz flywheel..bell housing ..cable and fork..(any fox body from boneyard 4.6 of v8 will work)..and dont 4get the pilot brg...

Wow theres alot of false info bouncing around about the 6cyl t-5s. they are the same world class t-5s that came in the 5.0's.. No drive shaft spacers needed you just have to use the bell housing it came with. The 4cyl t-5s were weaker but had a shorter 1st gear as if your rear had gears.

can seem to find any tranys any where, found one a couple of days ago but i thought it was a bit over priced, dude wanted 800 dollars for it, i told the guy no way jose. i been to like 10 junk yards around here were i live and can find one, must be that we red necks(consider my self a red neck even though i'am not white) love them ponies.

About how much should i be paying for a used tranny from the junk yard?

i cant begin to tell how many times i point peeps to this thread.... best ever imo, printable checklist and everything

and btw... you'll love it. youll think you just bolted on 100 hp when it's all done, let alone the fun factor of shifting it. with gears and tires... it'll be a full second faster to when it had an aod

Used t5 unknown condition...I'd say 200-300

Rebuilt used t5...400-500. I have sold a fresh rebuild I did myself for 400.

I think you can get them brand new for 800-1000 or so.

thanks guys for all the extra help you guys been giving me so far, but i have yet another question. Today i went treasure hunting online which I had totally forgotten about the cl and ebay(thanks sick six) and i found i couple of cars getting parted out(which is always a good news of course when is not your car that is getting parted for the need of cash, right!) and now im probably gonna make some phone calls but before i make any purchase i ganna make sure i got the right part. By that i mean that the tranny acctually came out off a 5.0 and not a v6 or 4cyl, what excactly am i looking for.
