Evil Window...!

Hello to all,

Just finished replacing my window regulator (Drivers side) and have been running into an even more annoying problem:

The window "sits" offset at the top: i.e. The front isn't (or barely IS) touching the top of the vent window assembly. The back (of the top) sits so far out that the door can't shut...


Any ideas, help, etc??? There has to be something I'm missing here...

Sounds like you didn't get it all back together properly. Double check how the window is attached to the regulator. The only other thing I can think of is that the regulartor is bolted in at a screwy angle. Pull the other door panel off and use the internals as an example of how everything should be bolted down/connected.

Windows are a bugger - did you remove all the internals? If you removed the vent and the outer guide, they may need to be adjusted so that they don't bind. Check your regulator guides - they will silently pop out of their rollers, stay in or out of the track, but still allow you roll the window up, albeit unevenly. The other area you should check is the stops - if they're not ajusted properly, it will allow the window to push up at an improper angle...

Finally broke down and pulled my new door panel off- not fun!- and found that the two "stops" in the middle weren't there. There is the "stop" at the back of the window, which was too low. I unscrewed it to where it could move freely. I did the same to the front and rear track bolts, so that both tracks could move slightly, so they could get to the angle of least resistance.

Finally, I noticed that the clip on the back window roller had broken off, and there rear track guide was off. I put a new one on, rolled it back to the top, and tightened all of the adjustment bolts, as well as the rear-window stop.

I also found new "stops", the ones that go in the middle of the door, but the regulator arm is too low for them to reach, even with the window all the way up!

Why couldn't ford just make windows with full frames like any other normal car? This is getting ridiculous!

Mine did the EXACT same thing a few months ago. Last weekend after a door handle linkage clip broke, preventing me from opening the door from outside, I decided to take the panel off and fix both problems.

The reason mine was doing that is because the rivet that holds the rearmost roller to the regulator broke, and let the back of the window sag, which set the top rear corner of the window back so far that it hit my quarter window when I shut the door. Your roller could have also popped out of the track, which would cause the same problem.

I would just take the panel back off and check it out. Spend a few minutes playing with it and you'll figure it out.

Edit:Well, nevermind, I'm an idiot and just saw your last post, lol!
I'll leave the rest of my reply here because maybe it will help someone one day.

Funny thing is... I had the same issue right before my window issue! It ended up being the rod had slipped out of it's hole on the plate attached to the knob. Then, after putting it back in, it soon slipped out. I ended up putting it back on, and then ran para-cord around it, and through the two holes in the side of the door. I tied the knot, and then pushed the knot back into the door. Works very good, haven't had any problems since. Hard to even see because the para-cord color matches the doors very nicely.
