The front seat belts on my 02 GT do not retract very well, the car has 28,000 miles and looks like new. Will it retract better if I buy new ones, or are they known for this? Is there a certain company I should get them from? I need black ones.

The front seat belts on my 00 gt don't really retract that well. What's more annoying to me though is the random locking of the belts when I barely move in the seat.

Hey laddies,

The plastic spool or the guides on the ends tends to break into pieces over time. Options are limited but one is to vacuum out all the broken bits and another option is to wind the spring tighter. There's a write-up (maybe here on Stangnet) about how to tighten the spring. I've had some good luck by pulling the belt out all the way and letting it retract part-way then repeating this about 10 times. It doesn't make the belt work perfectly but it seems to help improve the action. Maybe all it does is allow the plastic bits to fall out?

HTH,

Just a note...I had to fix one of my seat belts a couple of weeks ago and figured out what all needs to come out to get access and in what order. Check out my posts and you will find the write up. It's not as bad as you think and only takes about 15 mins.
