    Fan motor pigtail melting

Are you guys familiar with the TSB Ford had on the radiator fan motor/wiring? I don't remember exactly what the TSB was for, but I think it involved the motor drawing too much current and melting the wires. This is the best description I could find for the TSB: SAFETY RECALL PROGRAM 01S30...

C4 Trans leak from shifter arm shaft....

Sounds like you are talking about replacing the 'shift shaft seal'. If so, you don't need to drop the trans to do it - you just have to remove the pan and valve body. Once you have those out you can get to the shift shaft area. The shift shaft assembly was a little complicated - there are 5...

Help, can't get C4 trans pan to seal

Thanks for the replies, but I'm fairly certain it is leaking from the pan seal area. I don't know for certain that it is, but that is where the fluid is visible, and I've tried inspecting above the pan seal - as well as I could - to try and find a higher leak. So far it really appears to be...

Help, can't get C4 trans pan to seal

OK, so sounds like having problems getting a C4 pan to seal up nicely might be somewhat normal. I'm a little happy it's not just me, but concerned that I'm not ever going to get the pan to seal. chromedog: My previous pan was a little wavy along the gasket surface area - the area where the...

Help, can't get C4 trans pan to seal

I would appreciate any pointers anyone can give on how to get the pan on my C4 transmission to seal up. I think I've now redone it 6 times, and it is still leaking. Has anyone else had anywhere near this much trouble getting the pan to seal up and no leak? My technique: 1) Using a new...

C4 trans won't go into park unless I let the car roll a few inches

Not sure if the trans is original. My shifter has a white dot next to drive, and a green dot on a white dot next to 2nd. The shifter seems to move all the way from 1st to Park, it just won't lock into Park without holding it all the way forward and rolling the car a couple of inches.

C4 trans won't go into park unless I let the car roll a few inches

I have had this issue for a long time, but have the bottom of the transmission opened up this weekend, and thought I would try to finally fix this. When I stop and try to put the trans into Park it won't lock in - the shift lever just comes back a small amount and sits between Park and...

How tough to rebuild or overhaul a C4 trans?

I've started tackling my transmission leaks this weekend. I've got the car up on 4 jack stands, and cleaned things off some. Looks like the pan gasket is leaking and the shift shaft seal. There may be more leaks, but I'm going to try and fix these two, and see what things are like after that...

How tough to rebuild or overhaul a C4 trans?

OK, thanks for the reply bad68coupe. It just seemed a little strange to access the shifter seal at the top of the trans by going up through the bottom of the trans. Is something that can be done with the trans in the car? Think I found the seal you guys are talking about in the NPD...

How tough to rebuild or overhaul a C4 trans?

chemeng - shifter leak? Where would that be - the top of the trans where the shifter hooks up? You say you have to drop the valve body to get to the shifter seal. Is the valve body accessed by removing the trans pan?

How tough to rebuild or overhaul a C4 trans?

The fluid leaking onto the ground is definately red. I don't drive the car much - especially lately since the front end has been apart - but I have to add transmission fluid fairly often. I was just refering to it as an oily mess. I can't guarantee there isn't any motor oil mixed in there...

How tough to rebuild or overhaul a C4 trans?

Good point. No, I haven't checked any of that. I've been under the front of the car a lot lately redoing susp, etc. The transmission is a big oily mess - can't tell where any of the oil is coming from. I suppose a good first step would be to degrease the whole thing and try to determine...

How tough to rebuild or overhaul a C4 trans?

The C4 transmission in my '66 coupe is very old, but seems to work great. The shifts are fast and firm, doesn't slip as far as I can tell. The problem is that is leaks really badly. Not sure what happens while driving, but if I park for even 5 or 10 minutes it will leave a small amount of...

    Stock springs

I've never seen different models of shocks/struts for different ride heights. I think the shock will have a fairly long range of travel, and when you've lowered your car the shock is operating a little more compressed than if you hadn't lowered it, but still within its' normal range. I've...

    Stock springs

If you have the stock shocks/struts that is probably the problem. I put H&R springs on my '95 Cobra(forget what they are rated at) at it stiffened the ride up nicely, but after a while I realized things were very harsh. Replaced the stock shocks with Bilsteins and it helped a lot. After a few...

    15x7 torque thrust/stock 66 289

Should be fine - depending on what tire you plan on putting on them. I've got the 15x7 AR Torque Thrust wheels with 225-60-15 tires and they fit fine. I don't know the back-spacing of my wheels, but if you say they only come in 3.75, then that must be what I have.

    Oil pan grief

I've got a 351W in my '66 coupe, and I have to remove the starter and loosen the driver-side header(loosen the bolts at the head and remove the bolts at the collector) before the oil pan will drop. Other than that make sure all the bolts are out. It may also be stuck fairly tightly with just...

Are the tapered inserts in the Mast. Cyl ports replaceable?

Doing a lot of work of my '66 coupe brakes, and apparently screwed up my brand new dual-bowl MC. When I got everything back together the rear port leaked. Took the lines off and removed the MC, and the rear tapered insert - the brass looking piece that the flare in the brake line mates up to -...

Best Place to Buy Flaming River Box?

Same here, from ebay for $400 + shipping. Just looked up the receipt and was shocked to see that I bought it 5 months - back in July - and the car still isn't ready to drive. I'm doing a bunch more than just the steering box, though.
