It's probably stretching, cheapy replacement cables tend to do this. Get a OE Ford one. After I did made a world of difference. There is a place selling them for $40 includes a new clutch fork too. Can't remember who it is though, I'm sure someone will chime in.

OEM ford cable got rid of all those problems on my car. World of difference. I have the UPR quadrent and firewall adjuster as well. For 40 bucks new cable, new clutch fork can't go wrong. Although I haven't put the fork in, that's a hassle, but at least I have it if I need it.
