When i was drivin earlier today, i was 'gettin on it' through most of second gear, when i tried shifing into the 3rd slot it started to grind and vibrate the shtt out of my hand, i just slipped it into fourth and it went fine.

Later i was at about 60mph and held the clutch in to coast down to a stop, tried putting it into 3rd (around 700rpm's because it was idling from holding clutch in for a few seconds)to downshift(now at about 45mph) and it did the same grind as described above.

What is wrong, i can 'quick shift' into second jsut fine??

I can put it into 3rd slowly at around 2500 rpms from 2nd with no problem, was the clutch not fully disengaged, i'm sorta scared to try it again!!

Please Help,
Thanks ahead of time

How far do you have to lift the clutch pedal off the floor before the rpms start to drop? I mean where does the clutch start to engage. If its real close to the floor address that problem first. Like you said, it could be that the clutch is not fully dis-engaging the flywheel.

So many times I see or hear about 5.0's that can't shift. It always seems to lead to the cable being adjusted and all's ok. The bad thing is most dirty mechanics would see this as an opportunity to replace a tranny or clutch. I saw my mother-in-law go through this with her 5.0 only because she lives 8 hrs away. I coulda fixed it in 5 minutes with two wrenches. but she paid hundreds for a new clutch. Clutch waasn't bad and tranny is fine.
