Since the temperatures have dropped I decided to pull my cooling fan to see if I can run without. I took off the fan and shroud. There was no viscous coupling or clutch on the fan, just hard mounted to the water pump (with a spacer).
The drive to work this morning was fine - no overheating. The engine was quieter since the fan noise is gone, and it was much more willing to rev to 6000rpm, still pulling hard rather than dying off.
Any comments - is this a reasonable set-up for winter ? I will put in an electric fan for next summer but meanwhile I will try this set-up.
