I got a carbed 86 4 banger, what all can I do for it to help it out? Already rebuilt the carb(twice) and it runs very well now,new plugs, cap&rotor, wires, muffler. Can this motor be de-emissioned and still run? Would luv to get rid off all the vacuum lines. I'm going to see if the timings off next and try to bump it up some. Any suggestion would be great

Get a header, and cut out the cats. You said you've already got a new muffler, so i wouldn't bother replacing the entire exhust system, unless you want duels, but thats more for show then anything.

After that, I wouldn't put any more money into it because your not going to be getting very much in return. If you have the tools, you could pull off the intake and clean up the ports a little bit. Then you could pull off the head and clean up the exhust and intake ports and stuff a new cam in it, But really for the amount of power your going to get from any of those (or them all together) it isn't worth your time. I'd just fix up the exhust and save up your money after that for maybe a nice set of rims, some suspension parts or a paint job or something.

Actually you can do some pretty cool stuff with the carbed engines, it just takes some money. There's a couple different nice 2 barrel intakes on the market, you can mill the head to bump the compression, maybe even port the head, add a bigger cam, header, etc. You can definitely get rid of all the emissions stuff, however your engine uses an electronic feedback carb so I believe to change over to a regular carb you have to convert to duraspark ignition (not totally sure about that though)
