car dies when u turn the radio on

Im looking at a stang for sale. It runs great, but when you turn the radio on it dies. What would cause this? Would if be the alternator maybe going bad and its not getting enough power? or what could it be?

My first guess would be that the stereo install was screwed up, really bad. Probably something simple like a short, but shorts can be hard to find.
Does the car die when using other e- accessories? Headlights foglights a/c etc.

im with VRI - if that is the only issue, you can rewire the entire stereo if need be. however, i would rigorously check every other accessory out and note what happens - the radio might be the cause or showing you another issue unrelated to the stereo (just like VRI said).

my car used to die when I turned anything on.....the ground from the battery to the black had come loose

check to see if the car dies while trying other accessories
