Check this out, should make life easier for some

After installing gears on my buddies car we had enough of gears so when another buddy needed gears we took it to this guy that does gears. The crush collar on the gear install was reused when the new gears were installed. The new one was not used by the installer and he claims it doesn't make a difference aslong as its not damaged. My buddies car drives fine with the new 3.73 gears and old crush collar..I remember when we did the gears ourselves, installing the crush collar was the hardest part probably.

Though that will work a lot of the time, it's not the best idea! If you over tighten the pinion nut then you will have too much preload on the bearings, which you can't take out by loosening the nut because the sleeve is already crushed. If you don't tighten the nut enough, then you'll have slack (fore/aft movement) which is NOT good in a rear end setup LOL :nice:

Never go by counting threads, or "feel" on a rear end...unless you've done it 10,000 times and are a rear end specialist or something lol....

I guess your right, he must have done a **** load of them from his garage to where he has got it down I guess. Its bitch to tighten though when you don't have a lift since you need a lot of toque
