Clutch/Clutch Cable Question

I am looking at an 88' mustang gt this weekend and the guy claims that it is difficult to get it into gear (t5) sometimes without grinding, he figures that the clutch cable has stretched, I think that the clutch needs to be replaced (pressure plate springs worn?). what do you think? Thanks.

1. If it grinds and hard to get in ALL gears its the cable.

2. It also could be the clutch quadrant being stretched... ONLY if its the stock plastic piece.

3. If the clutch is bad, while accelerating (especially driving hard) the clutch will slip.

4. If its an adjustable cable it it may just need to be adjusted (tightened).

Sounds like a cable/quadrant problem though. Are you familiar with manual trannys?
