Hey everybody, as you can guess, I am a chevy guy, I have a built 65 chevelle, and just finished a buildup on my brothers 69 BMW 2002. After seeing my handywork my father-in-law wants me to redo and get runing his 69 stang. Problem is I don't know much about fords, I have been using the search function on the form and awnsered about 95% of the questions I had, but a few remain. I was wondering if you guys could help me out.
I havn't seen the car, nor do I have the vin, but he sent me a pic. Its a 1969 mustang, 302 2V car. Has an automatic(c4?, whats your guess) and I would guess a 8" rear with 3.00 or something gears. Interior, body, suspension, brakes are all PERFECT, been in a garage for 15 years. 70k orig miles. All original componemts.
Engine is blown, tranny is questionable, rear has no posi, so thats what he wants me to address. $5,000 budget, and he dosn't care about keeping it stock, wants it to be a reliable daily driver that performs well.
ENGINE
Full rebuild, balanced, bore, reuse block, crank, rods.
I was thinking of a northern auto parts rebuild kit that has flat top pistions and a crane energizer cam, .469 lift, 210 dur. Edelbrock performer RPM heads, edelbrock performer intake, edelbrock 600 cfm electric choke carb. Converting the points over with a crane XL-1, headman headers, and a jegs universial 2.5 in dual exhaust. Needs a rad, so I was going to get a Jegs universial ford alum rad.
QUESTIONS:
with the 60cc heads and flat tops how much compresion will I have and will I be able to run 87
From searching all you guys run the flamthrower, petrox ignition, has anyone tried the crane XL-1? What do you think of it?
Anyone ran the Jegs mustang 2.5" exhaust (cheaper than flowmaster american thunder or local shop install).
What would you do radiator wise? It has nothing now.
TRANNY:
I am pretty sure its a c-4, most all 2V 302 had them right? Its a 69 so its a 28 spline?? I found a rebuilt kit and a shift kit and was just going to do that myself.
Anyone have any advice on the tranny? What aftermarket trannys could I get if this one is crap. All the jegs/ect say 70-up, so whats the difference in a 69 C-4. Same with torque coverters, can I get one to fit the 69 C-4, if so where from. I wouldn't mind just buying anew TCI C-4, just don't know if it will work cause it says 70-up.
REAR END:
What do you think it is? I bet its a 8", don't really wana change gears but do wanna run POSI, all I can find is the auburn pro limit slip for like 400 bucks, is there any other option for a 69 8"? Any advice on the rear end?
All the parts added up for the engine, tranny and rear inlcuding all the small stuff I didn't mention like startor, bolts, paint and all that crap comes out to $4,000. Leaves me a $1000 for the balance and machine work and incase anything else comes up.
So anyway, what do you think, sorry for the long post, I tried to use the search as much as possible. Hopefuly you guys can help me out some. Nothing is set in stone yet, I am open to any options, so just leave me any comments, advice, or tell me I am an idiot.........
Thanks Guys.
