How does the AC circuit work?

The Car:
1982 Capri 5.0L. Engine not stock but the it is still carbed. AC not filled nor are the hoses hooked up nor will they be. Compressor in line and clutck not hooked up either. Mechanical Fuel punp. Dur-a-spark ignition. Nothing has been done to the car for well over a year.

Issue. When moving the Vent switch inside the car from Off to vent you cross the AC max and Normal. The engine will die when you cross those 2 positions. The engine will loose spark. Lights and all other electrical still work. This problem just started tonight during a normal drive to get movies.

Any hints on how the switch inside the car and spark are related?

fixed. I moved the switch up and down several times to clean the contacts and not things work just fine.
