I took the 97GT to the track for the first time in 3 years. The DA wasn't great at 2400 to 2100 feet, but I every pass I made was faster than my previous bests.

Since the last time I was at the track, I added the PI intake, PI cams, and did some tuning on the tweecer. I also threw the nittos from the 88 on, so I wouldn't tear up the street tires. Still running the stock 3.27 gears. I could run consistent 14.4's at 94mph before and got a 14.2 with some cold fall air one year. This time out, I was shifting around 5600-5700rpm. Sound about right for PI parts on a NPI?

First pass I launched around 3000rpm. It dead hooked and I shifted to 4th just before the finish, killing the trap speed.

14.119 @ 97.68

2nd pass, I launched more aggressively and got some initial tire spin. I held onto 3rd gear and crossed the strips at around 5700-5800rpm. I held 3rd the rest of the night instead of trying 4th.

14.136 @ 98.47

3rd pass, I hot lapped the car. It was only 12 min later. I slipped the clutch to much on the launch (around 4500rpm) and got another 2.074 60'.
.084 RT (getting used to the clutch again now)
2.074 60'
9.052 @ 77.51
14.063 @ 98.43 Getting close to a 13.XX. After slipping the clutch hard on this pass, I could smell the clutch a bit, so I popped the hood and let it cool while I watched.

4th pass, I bumped the timing another 1.5* across the board to see if it would gain anything (now at 6.5* above factory). I think it spun a little on the initial launch.

Last pass, I was distracted because my friend setup a GoPro on the passenger window and I was next to a 10.4 sec car. I tried my best to get a 13.XX, but spun on the initial launch.

Video: bhuff97GT.mp4 video by bhuff66062 - Photobucket Sorry, no sound because the GoPro had a glitch. If you could have heard, it barked every gear.

Soooo close to the 13.XX. I got in line to run again, but someone oiled the track and I ran out of time for the night. If I could have stayed, I am certain I would get the 13 second pass I was looking for. It was finally cooling down and you can see I gained .5mph on the last pass.

The GT was surprisingly consistent. In my 5 passes, spinning and not spinning, I still only varied .122 second from the fastest to the slowest pass. All in all, it was good fun, but with the PI cams, intake and some tuning I only gained .4 seconds and 4mph? I guess I was hoping for more.

Some of you know, I've been against gears for a long time. On street tires, I really think the 3.27s work well, as I went 2.1s reasonably easily. On the nittos, I can tell it is power limited to 2.0 60' times. I'd be nice to run out the quarter in 4th gear and take advantage of the 1:1 efficiency of 4th.

I agree with Burning Rubber about the altitude affecting the car. Still some really good times, Im waiting for the winter and new tires for me to run again I know I can get into the 13's! Its frustrating isnt it lol:D

Applying NHRA correction factors (benchracing lol), I would have gone 13.67 @ 101.6 in standard conditions (sea level, good air, ect). Yup, Kansas isn't very high, but the weather often sucks for making quick times.

It was still fun anyway. Just kinda sad to add this many parts and I only gained .4 and still can't reach 100mph. I sprayed the 2.3 with a 35 shot and gained .8 seconds and 6 mph. :rlaugh:

This gives me some hope! Do you think with full bolt ons you might get into the 13.7 or lower range? I really don't what to do a PI head swap. I plan on riding this motor out as long as possible and while I build a blown mark viii motor.

Good numbers man!
