possible 99 Cobra purchase

Hello. I'm looking at a 1999 Cobra. Pretty good condition inside and out, 100% stock with 161K miles and only a 2 owner car thus far. In the add it is throwing a PO308 code is said to have a 35% compression loss in cylinder 8. Asking $4000. I've been reading everything from seals, rings, valve, head gasket or even something simply like a washdown of fuel in oil due to the car sitting and barely moving and constant misfire. Anyone able to shed some quick general light on this subject. I'm thinking of offering $2500 and taking my chances and having the car diagnosed further or hopefully having the head pulled and correcting the problem for the difference of the price I'd like to pay to value which has it sitting around 4200 according to online consumer value tools. Thanks!
