My 91 Mustang popped the alternator belt, serpentine style.

I am at work and car is in parking lot and do not have access to my manuals, but I do have tools in the car and a spare belt.

I have never tried to change the belt on a serpentine system, all my 2.3L's were older with V-belts. What do I need to loosen to get serpentine belt on? I thoughtit was the tensioner below the alternator but I dont see how it would be loosened.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

the tensioner rests on the belt. You'll need a wrench or a ratchet and socket on the bolt that holds the pulley to basically lift the tensioner off the belt. You can only go one way and be productive. The other way loosens the pulley bolt. The only pain is when you get close to having enough room to slip the belt off of the alternator (or back on) is that the upper radiator hose kinda gets in the way.

Yeah, it just swings out of the way...it's spring loaded to always put pressure on the belt. Just put a socket/rachet on it and turn it, it will swing back (spring loaded still), and you can slide the new belt on.
