So here’s my question. I have rear defrost on the the rear hatch of my 87 lx but the switch is a false switch but there’s wires going to it. What’s the deal?

Switch was replaced at some point with one without the rear defrost?
All cars are wired for the rear defrost. The ones without it are lacking the proper switch, the relay under the dash, and the rear grid. The real question is, was the rear window replaced at some point with one with a defrost grid, and your car never had it, or was the switch replaced at some point with a switch that lacks the defrost button.
Answer to your question depends on if the rear defrost relay is under the dash.

All good questions! Ha! The grid is there. I guess I’ll search for relay. Could I add relay and proper switch if it doesn’t have the relay? Is relay near fuse panel?
Looks like everything is there. Relay, grid, wiring going to grid. Guess I’ll order the right switch and see what happens
