summit balancer question

I'm just spit balling here, but didn't the timing pointer change locations on the 302 engine over the years (pre-5.0 days)? It may be for that. :shrug:

Can you just turn the engine over until the number one piston is at TDC on the compression stroke and put the balancer on and see which set of timing marks is closest to 0 degrees?

Edit: I see it basically says that in the instructions. There ya go.
