tire help

i have stock 17x8wheel's and want to know if 285/40/17 will fit on my rims help me out...tires on my rims now are 235/55/17?

No, that's way too wide. That tire size will fit a 9" or 10" wheel. I think 255 is about as wide as you can go on 8" wheels. 275 will fit, but buldge and most places won't mount it.

+1. I have 275/40/17 BFG drag radials on 17x8" wheels, but only for drag days. It is not safe for high speed cornering, and bulges out too far. 255 tops on an 8" rim. 285 on a 9" rim. 315 on a 10.5" rim.
