I smelled an electrical burning smell the other day and i looked under my car and there was a harness hanging down where the tranny crossmember is not plugged into anything...so i got underneath and there are 3 of them all coming from a small hole in the floorpan right above the tranny crossmember. It looked like the other 2 were going into the tranny, one on the side and the other on top. The harness hanging down was touching the cat and burning..so i guess thats what i smelled..but anyway anyone know what these harnesses are especially the one hanging down? thanks!

what trans do you have?
if your back up lights work and cruise stuff all works, i might guess it is for the neutral safety switch (for a slushbox). i dont think they are used or connected on a 5 spd.

the neutral safety switch is for automatics (so you cant start it in drive, etc). it is not used on sticks, but is wired in from the factory.
