I am considering going to a standard rotation water pump.

I thought I could just change the pump and pulley, and keep the same timing cover.

I looked at replacement timing covers in a shop and noticed that the water passages are angled different directions.

Can anyone confirm that I need to change the timing cover to a standard rotation one, or not?

My old style timing cover and the timing cover on my 87 motor were the same. The backing plate on my water pump has round openings to use either style. Make sure you use the correct gasket to line up with your timing cover or you may have sealing problems.
