Stiches are out-Pics of my new Frankenhand!

A few weeks ago I had the rest of my finger removed and had a blood vessel/ nerve removal operation done on my right hand and the other day I finally had the chance to see the results for the first time when it was unrapped to remove about 40 stiches. I was nervous as you might expect but relieved that Im making progress. Some physical therapy is upcoming and the only issue I have is the dang "phantom pain". It feels like my finger is still there, quite weird to say the least. Anyways I hope to be healed and employed after the holidays and looking forward to a good 2008, as this whole year was a bummer .

i must say tho, it seems like they did an awesome job... took me a second look @ the pic to even tell at first you were missin a finger. must be tough gettin used to... good luck man!

Jk Man....I gotta say i know it its terrible but it looks like they indeed do a great job. It actually took me to the 3rd pic to realize it was you that posted not to long ago that you had you finger removed....

You know everyone says that you cant really tell unless you count the fingers Im happy with it because before when I had the stump, Id smack it against stuff as simple as like reaching for a cup of coffee, and It was hard to even change my spark plugs. At least now I dont have to live with the fear of re-injury all the time. This all happened primarily due to injury to my blood vessels so you know what the doctor gave me to improve blood flow to rest of my hand? Viagra ! It turns out they also prescribe that stuff for all sorts of vascular problems... I aint complaining tho

guess i made a n00b mistake LOL....

def sucks that its ur dominate hand... how has adjusting to certain things been for u? or do u see urself startin to use ur left a little more? are u goin back to work as a auto mechanic?

That really is an amazing surgical procedure. The situation is tough, but I honestly can't see it turning out any better then it did.

I lift weights for a hobby and one thing I never had was good grip strength. One of the things that I do is take those black binder clip things from my office and do repetitions closing them between my thumb and each individual finger. Might help you get some gripping strength back. You can start on the small ones and work yourself up to the large size.

I havent been able to do much lifting either at least 2 months now. Before I was riding my bike and lifting every 2 days, and at my age it doesnt take long to lose whatever progress was made, but Im getting a stationary bike and a tread mill and build up again. And the hand grips are a good idea

Its been a challenge using my left hand alot more, simple things like combing hair, brushing teeth, and even wiping yerazz are all things we take for granted, Im glad I can use my hand again. And no I dont think Ill be turning too many wrenches for a living, especially in the cold weather so Im looking to help run a shop behind the counter or something like that, thanks to all of you for the encouragement
