You better hope your buddy isnt on ls1tech.com doing the same thing your doing. Cause if he just does some exhaust work, gears, and a cam swap it dont matter if you have nitrous, it's game over for the mustang. ls1's are quick from the factory, but once you start throwing parts on them they are down right sick! One thing he will have a problem with is if he starts modding it he will break those half shafts in the rear, the GTO's have a IRS in the rear. But a friend of mine had a 05 gt auto and he put underdrive pullies, C&L cold air intake, 4.10 gears, i think the plates are called IARC plates maybe? (they are underneath in intake and eleminate the little butterflies that are on it from the factory), and had the car custom tuned with a SCT tuner and that car would run 10.50's in the 1000 ft at 98mph, stock ls1 GTO's will run around 11.2's in the 1000 ft. GTO's are just to heavy. No offense, but if the GTO get's modded, it will be Pontiac FTW!
PICS PLZ!
don't base your mods on beating some other guy lol try and aim for mods that will make your car feel like its making progress up the HP slope haha more SOTP factor = happier mustang driver. What's gonna suck is if you blow the engine with the NOS and you just got the car.
i think a nicely modded and sophisticated stang with a respectable bolt-on list and suspension upgrades is way more impressive than a stock gto
just my 2 cents.
but to answer your actual question, NOS is your best bet, or any type of forced induction for that matter
For some reason i thought u said ur car was an 05. That's why i said something about my buddies 05. If you will look at my sig and look at my parts, i can dominate a ls1 GTO in my 99 GT 5-speed. If u want a nitrous kit i have a complete NOS wet kit for sale for $350. It has everything you need!
Yeah I completely understand where your coming from. Here's a few pix when I got it.
CHROME YELLOW FTW!!
my baby once the modding begins, it never ends man haha mine needs so much work lol..
i recommend tubular everything, lose all the weight you feel comfortable with. there's no reason you cant get the 2900lb mark without gutting itdriver's seat replacement, rear seat delete, tubular everything, dog-bone gone, quad-shocks gone, etc. .
most bolt on GTO's are mid to high 12 second cars. Add a set of drag radials, and a 100 shot.
Um no....not real world anyways. I have buddies with an 05 6SPD and an 06 auto....thats right the LS2 GTOs.
Both run low 13s...I got a pass in the 06 auto and pulled a 13.3ish @ 105...the M6 trapped 106-107 and 13.2 or so. And they are both modded.
M6 has catback, canned tune, and an air filter.
Auto has FULL exhaust, dyno tune, and an intake....pulls hard and shifts even harder...I enjoyed making a pass in it!
ANYWAYS...point is, im sure people can run 12s with them with the right hookup...but real world is often different. Atleast at my track and from what they run down here And dont forget an LS1 GTO is slow by comparison...
I say the OP just needs, plenum, K&N filter, O/R X pipe, 3.73 gears, and a tune...and he would run right with that LS1 GTO no prob.
Sorry, forgot the car is stock
Don't know about your tracks in Bastrop I'm guessing Navasota or SAR, but in Houston, you wont find many, if any 13 second lsx cars at HRP. Got it handed to me in the Z at HRP last week by an ls2 GTO. Headers, lid, pulley, catback, tune, he ran a 12.39 to my 12.69.
Quite a few GTO's have gone 12's in Houston, with bolt ons and the stock heads/cam. ls2 cars usually trap only 1-2mph faster.
