5 lug pony wheel - The Mustang Message Board

Anyway, but I did have a reason for the post... I am about to convert my 4 lug TC rear to 5 lug... the 16x8's (95 cobra r 15mm offset) and 245/50-16's I am running dont fit well... especially with the Steeda Sports... and I cant find a wheel with enough offset or backspacing to suck the wheels in further and stay 4 lug. So I'm going to swap to SN95 axles and MPV rotors with MM 1/8" spacers, and then my choice of wheels will increase drastically... I might even run 5 lug Pony R's in back and 4 lug Pony R's in front... no one would see... it would just be a pain to get a flat.

Well what ideas do you have about wheels... :nice:

Then why even do a 5lug conversion then. If you want pony rims.
Cause the 16in ones wont clear the cobra brakes if that is what you are doing.
And if you are just doing a front rotor with 5 lug and rear drum 5 lug then you are going to waste alot of money that you can get oem pony wheels in 4 lug.

There is a shop around here that will weld and drill new bolt patterns for $200 for all 4. Im sure in the situation of the ponys they could just cut out the round countersink and weld a new one in and drill new holes.

Because you cant find 4 lug rims with enough offset to fit inside the fender. I dont want cobra brakes up front. I like my brake setup the way it is. I have 93 Cobra discs in the back, and stock front rotors with 73mm Mark 7 Calipers up front...

I am not going to do a rear drum swap, I already have discs.. You take out the Turbo Coupe axles and rotors... put in 94-98 axles, a 1/8" Maximum Motorsport Spacer, and 1990 Mazda MPV 3.0 front rotors.. and wala! 5 lug disc brakes in the rear and the myriad of wheel choices and offset possibilities.

I may be wrong, but can't you get the Mavromont Pony R's in 17" and 5 lug? That would be a good way to go for a 5 lug conversion with Cobra brakes.

Thats kinda what I was thinking.. I think ideally I would like to run these (below) on all 4 corners. If the Steeda Sports will still allow them to fit up front.

I'm not a big fan of putting a spacer inside the rotor. I'd definitely upgrade the studs if you go that route. Moving the rotor away from the axle flange increases the moment arm acting on the studs during braking and increases the risk of snapping or bending studs.

true story... I dont like it much either, but it seems like a pretty easy swap. I will definitely take that advice. You have any preference on which wheel studs to use?

You know how to spell myriad, but not viola?

:D

Personaly i don't like the idea of a spacer behide the rotors. If your going to convert you T/C axle to 5 lug just buy the drilled out rotors. I belive you can get them for about 120 130 bucks.

I think it would be cheaper to stay 4 lug and just use real 93 cobra wheels. Not the cheap re-po's that have the funky off set to be used on GT's and LX's. Just get the cobra rotors for the frt and you should be good to go.

uhh... tc drilled rotor @ $120 ftl.

MPV rotors 50ish, spacers from Maximum Motorsport 30ish... upgraded studs for 20... that leaves 20 bucks in my pocket.

plus I just dont think that a 1/8" spacer is a huge width of spacer especially for the rears. I dont drag race, and only autox a couple times a year, this is just a mostly daily driver for me. I'm just not sure the 1/8" is going to be a drastic change.

finding a set of 93 cobra rims isn't easy. I have a lead on a set now... but they aren't exactly cheap.

Anyway, I am just kinda waiting to see what pans out when I get back to the house. I have a wedding, or rather my wedding to be at this weekend, but I'll be back around home next week sometime. Thanks SN :nice:
